WITNESS | Charitable | Visit Website
WITNESS learns from and with frontline human rights defenders and journalists how to prepare for AI’s impact on trust, democracy, and human rights. Through training and rapid response programs, we address real-world AI harms.

We leverage expertise, research, and cross-regional networks to shape audiovisual technologies, infrastructure, and the policies and laws that govern them. Whether confronting AI’s weaponization against vulnerable communities, its impact on elections, or its potential for positive change, we ensure these technologies strengthen – rather than undermine – human rights and our information ecosystem.

University of Toronto (Schwartz Reisman Institute) | Grant | Beth Coleman
Seed grant to support EU Horizon grant application for “Artistic intelligence”: harnessing the power of the arts to address complex challenges. Intended outcomes:
• Demonstrated efficacy of transdisciplinary art-science-technology frameworks in addressing complex societal challenges, establishing new pathways for inclusive innovation.
• Institutionalized and scaled international networks connecting cultural repositories, academic labs, and creative practitioners, thereby broadening structural opportunities for artistic interventions in tech and science ecosystems.
• Successful deployment and validation of three low-Technology Readiness Level (TRL) pilot demonstrators, materializing artists' critical engagement with novel generative AI architectures toward functional, public-facing prototypes.
